industrial accident whitman.

i have added around 30 shots from an industrial accident that occured today in whitman on industrial way. the photos are from the medflight from the memorial field on essex street. the patient was stuck under the bucket of a bobcat that he was working on.

in other news... the best part about the election being next week is that the sununu and shaheen tv commercials will stop. seriously... stop the ads in massachusetts, we don't vote for you.

wassup?

i have added photos from two second alarm fires tonight. the first fire was in millis ma, the second fire was in brockton ma. both fires were pretty much knocked down when i arrived, but since i drove there, i might as well post some photos.

the brockton fire was right next door to the three alarm fire that they had last week... getting busy on wyman street! should be an interesting winter.

providence citywide now on brockton repeater.

providence citywide has started to operate on the former ma statewide/tac-9 frequency. they will call the frequency citywide north. providence citywide north can be heard at 471.4625 with a pl of 103.5. i will definately start using the frequency for notifications, and actually put out an incident this morning. there are many pcfn members in the area that i'm sure will start to use this frequency and making it very active.

christmas vacation is about to come on hbo. channel 304. its almost that time of the year!

jaws used at whitman rollover.

i have added photos from the rollover today in whitman at west and washington streets. it was a two car accident, with one car on its roof. the occupant was trapped and it took around 15 minutes for them to be extricated.

vote no on question 1

if question one goes through, there would be a good chance that every whitman firefighter would be laid off. that's just one town.

demolishing the income tax is not a smart way to help the ecconomic crisis. it will destroy the budgets of every city and town in massachusetts causing massive layoffs statewide.

read about it... decide for yourself.

vote no on question 1

photos added

i have added photos from a car vs building that whitman engine-2 worked at in brockton while on a coverage assignment. the accident occured the day before, but there was still some pretty good visable damage to the building.

also added are some photos from the motorcycle poker run that whitman firefighters held on october 15th.

last night's sox game.

probably the worst game i've ever seen... let alone been too. we left in the sixth inning (i think). i hope they can atleast win one more game, but with the way they have played the last two i think thats doubtful. at least the seats were good...

fourth alarm avon ma added

i have added photos from the fourth alarm fire this afternoon in avon ma. the fire looked like it started outside of a very large two-story 1000' x 500' (approximately) commercial building. a tier-1 hazardous materials response was also requested due to the large ammount of ammonia in the building for refridgeration.

i have also added photos from the firehouse open house in whitman ma this morning.

take care k

live scanner feeds.

i thought i would post some of the live scanner feeds that i use when i'm away from the radio.

mass fire radio is probably the live scan that i use the most. its a good live scan that you can listen to through the pro scan client and get a good visual display. the pro scan client allows you to record the scanner, so if you miss an address or something, you can go and playback the recording.

ken labelle hosts scan-ri.com which is a great rhode island, massachusetts and connecticut feed that requires no software downloads. it runs right off of the site and gives a display so you can see what you're listening to.

a very active out of area live scanner is the detriot fire live feed. this feed's url can be plugged into itunes and played directly through that.
thats what i use... what do you listen to?

whitman fire.

whitman had a job today around 16:20 hours at 145 school street. a single caller reported a fire. co's found heavy smoke showing from the 4-unit apartment building. the fire started in a room that stored the hot water heaters and also had some other miscellaneous storage. including some gasoline, which may have started the fire.

the fire was knocked down and the fire was contained to the room of origin. i went to the fire with engine 1, second due. got to do some overhaul. it definately beat the paramedic refresher i was in all day. (photo by mike o'shea)

i have added a photo of the new worcester fire house that was built on the grounds of the worcester cold storage fire where six firefighters were killed. the fire is in the submitted gallery and is courtesy of dave stewart. a very nice looking house.

i've added the photos from the mva with heavy entrapment that occured today around 1545 hours in front of 210 indian head street which is route 58. the patient was trapped in the vehicle for around 45 minutes. the medflight crew landed at the landing zone and were brought to the scene to assist with patient care. two other patients were transported from the scene, including one additional patient out of the truck.

i will have some submitted photos up a little later tonight.

fuck walgreens.

when i was in buffalo i brought along my film camera to shoot some black and white shots while i was away. i made a trip to a couple camera shops to get the right film and everything, spent $20 on a special battery for the camera and money for the flash batteries.

today i dropped off the roll of film (37 photos) at walgreens in whitman. i usually get all my digital prints done there. they are cheap, quick and good quality. so when i showed up like two hours later the kid looks at me and says, "ah yeah, we had a problem with your film..." and with that he pulls out a purple length of blank negatives. he told me that he had never seen film like that and wasn't sure why it didn't develope. i informed him that it was black and white and he looked at me with this puzzled look on his face. "why did you develop it if you've never seen that kind before?" i asked and he just looked at me. "maybe there is something wrong with the film or the camera..." he said. "no," i said, "...the problem is with you."

so needless to say the roll of black and white shots i took in buffalo are no good and gone. i'm mad cause i had some good shots of alina and max that i took last night.

so along with that i've found out that my blinker is out on my truck. and i found that out on the way to the boston sparks meeting that i thought was in revere tonight at the new station. when i got there i found the place locked up tight and no one there. i called art and asked what the deal was. apparently the printer made an error and it had the wrong date on it.

i ended up going in to the fire museum to hang out for a little bit to make up for the trip to the city. maybe i'll have a better weekend?!

photos that i sent into firehouse.com got published today. the story can be viewed on their front page or here. unfortuanately they gave me credit for all six of the photos, when in fact, the last three photos are by ken labelle. i sent them an email and hopefully they'll get that corrected.

fire photography podcast.

i just downloaded a fire photography podcast run by craig durling (craig@firegroundaction.com). i'm listening to it right now... some good tips and new product reviews. you can check it out by searching "fireground" on itunes under podcasts or by clicking here. if you dont use itunes you can get all of their podcasts on their website.

not too bad. check them out.

lt clancy swearing in photos added

i've added photos from last nights swearing-in of lieutenant tim clancy. they are located in the whitman fire/rescue gallery off of the main page. a lot of people didn't realize there are a ton of photos in that gallery, but there are. so check it out.

reminder again of the whitman firefighters local #1769 poker run this sunday. registration is from 9:30 - 10:30am. the run will hit four stops (plymouth, halifax, pembroke and whitman) before heading back to the whitman vfw for a cookout, awards, prizes and raffles.

save the date: the bare cove fire museum is holding its annual firehouse night on november 1st at 7pm. more info will be released soon.

hanover permanent firefighters are holding an mda fundraiser on october 4th. this fundraiser is actually a really good idea... i wish i could attend. they're taking a bus from the rockland park and ride (route 228 at route 3), leaving at 2:30pm and going to the harpoon brewary octoberfest. the bus departs the brewery at 8pm. tickets are $25. contact eric johnson a.s.a.p. at pffh2726@yahoo.com or 781-603-7676.
