pembroke's new ladder-1

thanks to a couple of tipsters... i have added a photo of pembroke ma's new ladder-1. it is a very nice 2008 pierce velocity 105' rma quint. i snapped this photo as the guys were training on it in the rear of the station this morning. i have sent the photos to pcrn.org, 1str, massfiretrucks.com and firenews.org... but remember, you've seen it here first folks!

new year... new changes to the site.

the new year is just about here and i have been thinking about some ways to change the site up a little bit. first off, i have decided (with the help of reardon) to start up a e-mail group. the group will send out notifications of updates to the site. also, any fire related news or other pertinant news. to sign up for the group click here. i will also put up a link on the main page of the site.

another couple changes i have pondered is reducing the size of the images from 700 pixels to 500 pixels and place the watermark through the center of the image. i want to do this for a couple reasons. i have had images lifted from my site, the watermark cropped out and the image used in a newspaper. i have also seen a lot of people using the photos without permission. if i reduce the size and place a watermark through the middle of the image, this may be a deterant. i still haven't made up my mind about this one... but i think i'm going to do that starting the first of the year.

the 2009 nefirephoto.com calendar is still available for order via lulu.com. these will probably be on sale until february only, so get one now, before they're not available.

heavy fire in hanson.

hanson and east bridgewater fire departments responded to this working barn fire at 19 franklin street in hanson this morning. photos have been added... check them out!

fatal second alarm in scituate.

scituate ma firefighters worked at a second alarm house explosion which occured around 1430 hours this afternoon. i took the job in from home (around 40 mins away). the police already had a pretty good perimeter up, so i got what i could, from where i could.

unfortunately, the fire turned out to be fatal when a body was found in the rubble. the photos are up now.

forget anything?

this morning rockland had a working fire at a house on the corner of concord and albion streets. i arrived around 10 minutes after the first due companies and realized that not only did i forget my jacket (it was raining) i forgot my camera.

sweet deal...

it was an outside fire that had some minor extension into the one and a half story wood frame dwelling. there was a for sale sign out front, i'm not sure if the building was occupied.

so jim, i hope you made it and grabbed some shots.

the bravest online "best of" dvd.

the bravest online has put together a "best of" compilation dvd of the best 10 videos that have been submitted to their site.

i just purchased it... we'll see how good it is. the trailer is pretty good. they are selling it in a package deal with the houston, tx may day video.

lt vincent p russell plaque dedication.

On Saturday morning, January 24, 2008 at 0900 hours, there will be a dedication of a plaque on the firehouse wall for FLT Vincent P. Russell, Rescue Company One. January 9th is the anniversary and for the convenience of his family the above date was chosen. I know that Recruit training will be in session on Saturday that week, but anyone available is welcome to attend. Please pass this info on to anyone who may be interested.

i have added photos from this afternoons working fire in halifax around 1500 hours. the electrical fire was in the walls of a private dwelling. not too much to see, but i added the photos anyways.

halifax had a working fire early this morning around 0200 hours. i heard the oic advise the engine to hold off on the hydrant, so i held off on getting out of bed.

car vs pole photos added.

i have added photos from a car vs pole in east bridgewater this evening. the crash came in around 2215 hours at harvard and pine streets. i had headed to rockland for a struck box when this came in. rockland was nothing so i made my way to this crash. the initial call reported the pole and live wires down, but it was just leaning. no injuries at the scene.

i took roughly 475 photos yesterday between the firefighter of the year awards in boston and the worcester six memorial unveiling in worcester. so many that my camera was being really weird towards the end of the night. i'm not sure if the batteries were running low, if it was too cold, or the shutter was malfunctioning. but either way, i have a lot of shots.

i will have them up sometime tomorrow, probably my the evening. i may have some apparatus photos from greenwood in attleboro tomorrow, but i'm not sure what they have, etc.

so, stay tuned. a ton of photos are coming, i'm just too busy with work right now to get them up.

also, i got an email back from channellock regarding my review of the rescue tool. they said that they are aware that it may be too long, but that it was that long so leverage with the gas shut off and the spanner wrench were not comprimised. he did hint about a shorter version in the works. so thats good, i guess. maybe they'll give me one for free... since the one i bought is worthless haha.

i plan on attending the "firefighter of the year" ceremony in boston as well as the ninth year aniversary of the worcester 6 tragedy tomorrow. the firefighter of the year ceremony is held every year at faneuil hall to honor heroic acts by firefighters over the past year. last years photos can be seen here.

the worcester cold storage warehouse fire that killed six firefighters occured 9 years ago tomorrow. now, a new firehouse sits on the site of the warehouse blaze and a memorial will be unveiled tomorrow. i have never been to the site before, i'm interested to go to it. i have seen so much of it, i just wonder what is going to be like to be there.

images from both events should be up tomorrow night or sometime thursday afternoon.

whites bakery fire in brockton.

photos have been added from tonights fire at 1041 pearl street in brockton ma "white's bakery". the fire was in the ceiling and was pretty much knocked down by the sprinklers, but all companies worked to overhaul the fire. i arrived around 20 minutes into the job and moderate smoke was still visable from the building.
