i have added photos from the mva/rollover in whitman ma this early am. the accident occured around 0140 hours on south avenue at pleasant street. the only occupant of the vehicle was trapped. the jaws were used and the patient was transported to the south shore hospital. a ton of photos have been added from this crash. also, check out the additions made yesterday.

whitman fire held rit training at the old armory building behind their firehouse yesterday. firefighters from east bridgewater also participated in the drill. i have added around 150 photos from the training in the whitman fire/rescue section of the site. take care and stay safe, pat.

double fatal working fire in springfield.

on friday, i went out to the neafc expo in west springfield to check out the exhibits and the new apparatus deliveries. dave stewart and myself stayed out in springfield area for the night to buff the western mass area. we were awoken around 0820 hours on saturday for a reported house fire with occupants trapped. the fire, at 671 bay st in springfield, claimed the life of two children, a 17 y/o and a 4 y/o. it was a very sad scene for all of those who were there. i have added my photos to the site. i'm hoping my next time out to springfield isn't as bad.

i have added photos from a third alarm in yonkers ny last night. we were met with heavy traffic all around nyc and the surrounding towns, so it was no surprise that we had around a 60 minute eta to this job. the fire was well knocked down when we arrived, but i added some shots anyways.

two multiple alarms this weekend. (so far)

at 0110 hours on saturday morning, whitman worked at a fatal second alarm at 15 newland drive. i didn't grab any pics, as i was working that shift. fire was contained to one room. one occupant was killed in the fire.
last night, sometime around 0330 hours abington worked at a third alarm for 707 bedford street. fire was in an apartment building. numerous people were treated for smoke inhalation. from what i understand the fire was contained to one apartment. i didn't make this job because i apparently was sleeping very soundly!
currently, the city of cambridge is working a third alarm at the church of latter day saints on longfellow park.

east bridgewater worked at this vacant house fire on pond street around 0130 hours this morning. the home was fully involved when the first due companies arrived. companies used multiple hand lines to knock down the fire within a half hour. an excevator was called in to assist in overhaul operations. photos are up now.

i have added photos from a working fire in providence, ri from last friday. pics from yesterdays funeral for east bridgewater ma deputy fire chief robert fairburn and shots from this afternoons pedestrian accident in brockton ma. four pedestrians were struck while crossing north main street. one was medflighted to boston immediately following the accident, and atleast one other child who was struck was medflighted after being treated at the brockton hospital.

i plan to add a ton of submitted photos to the site tomorrow. hopefully... we'll see.

Robert D. “Bob” Fairburn 53 life long resident of East Bridgewater died unexpectedly Wednesday March 25. He was the loving husband of Ruth Ann (Almeida) Fairburn, and devoted father of Donnie, Elizabeth and Daniel.
Born in Brockton and raised in East Bridgewater he was the son of the late Robert Stewart and Loretta (Sullivan) Fairburn and a graduate of East Bridgewater High Class of 1974.
Bob served on the East Bridgewater Fire Department for thirty two years, the last thirteen as Deputy Fire Chief. He was an active and respected member of the community and served as a role model for many.
He was a member of the Satucket Lodge.
In addition to his loving wife and children he is survived by Ruth Ann’s parents Donald and Louise Almeida and his sisters Loretta Susan Cotta and Cindy Wright.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respect Sunday March 29 from 2-6 PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman. His funeral service will be held Monday March 30 at 10 AM from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, followed by a mass at 11 AM in St. John the Evangelist Church, East Bridgewater. Internment will follow in the Beaver Cemetery, East Bridgewater.
In lieu of flowers, college educational accounts have been set up for the children at the East Bridgewater Savings Bank 29 Bedford Street, East Bridgewater, MA 02333.

i have posted several new photos from several different area photographers of recent incidents. jim hudson sent in shots from a gas leak in rockland ma yesterday. stephen walsh has sent in photos from an mva in brookline earlier today and an oil truck mva which occured in newton earlier this month. one of paul shea's images from a 4th alarm in worcester, a week or so ago, can be seen to the left. dave stewart has submitted photos from the funeral of acton firefighter leo hayes and from a 5th alarm in boston ma.

i will be shooting a technical rescue drill tomorrow night, so keep checking the site for those photos.

its 2000 hours in the big apple and it has seemed to have slowed down a bit. i'm currently in manhattan at the hotel. we're headed out in a minute to possibly the bronx.

this photo is from my cell phone at a 10-75 this morning in queens. fire was in an occupied dwelling. knocked down in about 12 minutes. we also just got some shots from a triple homicide which occured a block away from the hotel on w 93rd street. the shooting was inside the apartment, not much to see.

so right as we arrived in nyc we took in an all hands manhole fire in the bronx. the fire was at e180 st at honeywell avenue. box 75-3138. i would have some pics up but i forgot my card reader.

and half way though this post we took in queens box 75-6081 for 129 street at 97th avenue for a fire in a dwelling with a jumper down.

so far so good... i'm going to get a card reader tomorrow to get some of the shots up.

tonight, i traveled down to providence to "spark". if i wanted to chase ems calls i would have been very busy... but i didn't, so i wasn't. just as i got home providence had a working fire in a vacant dwelling. oh well... i did get this cool shot of the capitol building.

one week until the trip to the big apple. fdny had two three alarm fires this evening, both in queens, the borough we are staying in on friday. i'm hopeful and excited about the trip!

weymouth firefighters rescued a black lab after it fell through some ice at the end of puritan road. weymouth used the crews from two engines and two ladders to pull the dog back to shore. the owner was very greatful!

i have added some photos from the working fire this afternoon in hanover. fire occured in a single family home at 110 pine street. the fire was apparently in the walls near the chimney. a passerby the homeowner to the fire. not too much to see, but a couple candid shots.

around 0100 hours early this morning hanson firefighters responded to 80 phillips street for a house fire. companies found heavy fire conditions in a one story single family dwelling. firefighters were quickly pulled out and defensive operations were initiated.

i arrived to find heavy fire through the roof, through out the whole building. a lot of fire. it was unknown if anyone was home at the time. no news outlets have reported a fatal fire, so i assume it was vacant.

i just finished going through the 387 photos that i took today at the lodd funeral for boston fire lieutenant kevin m. kelley (ladder 26). lt kelley was killed in a apparatus accident last friday. it was a bitterly cold day and the wind made it even more unbearable. thousands of firefighters braved the elements to pay tribute to the fallen firefighter. my condolenses go out to the kelley family.

also added the other day are photos from three incidents. two second alarm fires in braintree ma and a mva in hanson ma, both on 01/12. check those out too.

i have caught up a bit this evening and added some of my own galleries as well as some submitted photos. from me, comes some shots from the working fire in rockland ma last night. fire was in a two-story woodframe occupied dwelling. basement fire with heavy smoke through out. today i shot a partial building collapse at the budweiser distribution center in kingston ma. part of the "d" side collapsed due to the weight of snow and ice. kegs were holding up parts of the ceiling following the collapse. special thanks to the chief and members of the kingston fire department for letting me get in close. i definately appreciate it.

paul shea has sent in some great shots from a fatal third alarm in worcester ma last night. i have also added shots of an ice rescue of a deer in waltham ma that occured on jan 5th thanks to scott arnold. both shots can be seen in the submitted gallery.

i have added some photos from a head-on motor vehicle accident that occured in whitman this afternoon around 1430 hours. medflight was requested, but was unavailable. two patients were transported to the south shore hospital.

after this call, whitman got 5-additional ems calls within around a half hour. that brought ambulances from as far away as hanover in to the town.

happy new year to everyone! the new year was brought in with a three alarm fire in brookline ma last night that destroyed a building that was on the national register of historic places. today, newton ma firefighters battled a three alarm fire of their own at a private dwelling on woodward street. photos of both incidents have been added to the submitted gallery. thanks to ifpa president stephen walsh for the shots.

the new year is just about here and i have been thinking about some ways to change the site up a little bit. first off, i have decided (with the help of reardon) to start up a e-mail group. the group will send out notifications of updates to the site. also, any fire related news or other pertinant news. to sign up for the group click here. i will also put up a link on the main page of the site.

another couple changes i have pondered is reducing the size of the images from 700 pixels to 500 pixels and place the watermark through the center of the image. i want to do this for a couple reasons. i have had images lifted from my site, the watermark cropped out and the image used in a newspaper. i have also seen a lot of people using the photos without permission. if i reduce the size and place a watermark through the middle of the image, this may be a deterant. i still haven't made up my mind about this one... but i think i'm going to do that starting the first of the year.

the 2009 nefirephoto.com calendar is still available for order via lulu.com. these will probably be on sale until february only, so get one now, before they're not available.

scituate ma firefighters worked at a second alarm house explosion which occured around 1430 hours this afternoon. i took the job in from home (around 40 mins away). the police already had a pretty good perimeter up, so i got what i could, from where i could.

unfortunately, the fire turned out to be fatal when a body was found in the rubble. the photos are up now.

this morning rockland had a working fire at a house on the corner of concord and albion streets. i arrived around 10 minutes after the first due companies and realized that not only did i forget my jacket (it was raining) i forgot my camera.

it was an outside fire that had some minor extension into the one and a half story wood frame dwelling. there was a for sale sign out front, i'm not sure if the building was occupied.

so jim, i hope you made it and grabbed some shots.
